PREVENTIVE MEDICINE

Skin screening has been made available in our health screening packages. For individuals without symptoms or complaints we examine the entire body surface and take note of any suspicious lesions or premalignant changes. We evaluate meticulously with dermatoscope and ensure no underlying autoimmune / allergy / cancerous skin problem would be missed.

VARICOSE VEIN

For those with vein insufficiency and varicose veins, we introduce Radiofrequency ablation to seal off the targeted blood vessels. It is a minimally invasive procedure where patients get to walk immediately following the procedure, and are usually able to resume their normal activities within a day. If You can Spot It You Can Stop It

This saying is very true when it comes to skin cancer, particularly malignant melanoma. A dark spot or a mole or a naevi on our skin, when found getting bigger, changing in color and becomes unusual, need to be examined using dermatoscope.

Our skin specialist will perform a minor skin surgery under local anaesthesia should any need arise. The suspicious lesion will be removed (biopsied) with minimal pain and discomfort. The specimen then will be sent for histopathological confirmation.

Itch - the most unbearable feeling in the universe

There are 101 reasons why someone is feeling itchy. It could be allergy, infection, STD (sexually transmitted diseases), insect bite, autoimmune disorders, kidney failure, followed by an exhaustive list.

Our skin clinic provides a wide range of diagnostic services. We are equipped with UV Wood's lamp to help identify skin infection, additional skin scraping and culture to figure out the infected species. We do allergy test as well as autoimmune profile.

We have introduced OPTIGEN ASEAN Panel since April 2014 to help patients with intractable itch finding the specific allergen. 36 specific IgE (including seafood, nuts, mild, latex, molds etc) will be checked using only 8cc of blood sample.

Varicose vein

Varicose veins usually don't cause any pain. Signs you may have varicose veins include:

  • Veins that are dark purple or blue in color
  • Veins that appear twisted and bulging; often like cords on your legs

When painful signs and symptoms occur, they may include:

  • An achy or heavy feeling in your legs
  • Burning, throbbing, muscle cramping and swelling in your lower legs
  • Worsened pain after sitting or standing for a long time
  • Itching around one or more of your veins
  • Skin ulcers near your ankle, which can mean you have a serious form of vascular disease that requires medical attention

varicose veins

Spider veins are similar to varicose veins, but they're smaller. Spider veins are found closer to the skin's surface and are often red or blue. They occur on the legs, but can also be found on the face. Spider veins vary in size and often look like a spider's web.

These factors increase your risk of developing varicose veins:

  • Age. The risk of varicose veins increases with age. Aging causes wear and tear on the valves in your veins that help regulate blood flow. Eventually, that wear causes the valves to allow some blood to flow back into your veins where it collects instead of flowing up to your heart.
  • Sex. Women are more likely to develop the condition. Hormonal changes during pregnancy, premenstruation or menopause may be a factor. Female hormones tend to relax vein walls. Taking hormone replacement therapy or birth control pills may increase your risk of varicose veins.
  • Family history. If other family members had varicose veins, there's a greater chance you will too.
  • Obesity. Being overweight puts added pressure on your veins.
  • Standing or sitting for long periods of time. Your blood doesn't flow as well if you're in the same position for long periods.

Treatments

Endovenous ablation has replaced stripping and ligation as the technique for elimination of saphenous vein reflux. One of the endovenous techniques is a radiofrequency-based procedure. Newer methods of delivery of radiofrequency were introduced in 2007. Endovenous procedures are far less invasive than surgery and have lower complication rates. The procedure is well tolerated by patients, and it produces good cosmetic results. Excellent clinical results are seen at 4-5 years, and the long-term efficacy of the procedure is now known with 10 years of experience.
