The risk factors indicating diagnostic use of Bone Densitometry

• Oestrogen deficiency – premature menopause (<45 years) / Prolonged secondary Amenorrhoea > 1 year (no menses).
• Corticosteroid therapy.
• Maternal family history of hip fracture.
• Low body mass index (<19 kg/m2).
• Radiographic evidence of Osteoporosis and/or vertebral deformity.
• Previous fragility fracture, particularly of the hip/spine.
• Loss of height, thoracic kyphosis.
• If you have total hip replacement or spine implant, alternative bony structure will be scanned.
