MRI Images The latest Open MRI from Siemens

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is an imaging technique used primarily in medical setting to produce high quality images if the inside of the human body. It is primarily used to demonstrate diseases or other physiological alterations of living tissues. MRI is radiation free and it is frequently used by doctors to examine.

  1. Breast, abdominal and pelvic organs
  2. Bone & joints - shoulder & knee joints conditions, sport injuries, traumatic injury
  3. Spine - disc problem, injury, tumor, spinal column infection
  4. Brain, spinal cord & nerves - stroke, tumor, injury
  5. Cancer - useful to diagnose certain tumor, particularly that involves the bones or muscular structure, rectum cancer, etc

MRI in Spine

MRI has greatly improved the ability to visualize any normal or diseased tissue in the spine (also known as the back bone or vertebral column). It is also able to visualize the bony structures as well as the spinal cord and the nerves. Common uses are:-

  • Disc problem - the most common indication for MRI of the spine is to identify bulging disc/slipped disc and degenerative disc which is a frequent cause of lower backpain and neck pain.
  • Injury - MRI is the method of choice to assess injuries to the spinal cord, joints and muscles as it able to delineate soft tissue plane clearer than other imaging such as CT scan.

Detection of stroke with MRI

MRI is very useful for the detection of stroke. MR angiography is the imaging of choice to study detail vascular anatomy such as blockage of the artery.
